Venue of the school

The venue of the school is School of Engineering, Universidad de la República, Julio Herrera y Reissig 565, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Accomodation

All the funded participant will be lodge at Medio Mundo Hostel, Paullier 1004, esquina San Salvador. If you arrive on Sunday go directly to the hostel.

The hostel is, accordingly to google maps, 14 minutes away, on foot, from the venue of the school.

From the airport to the hostel

Some options to get there: (a) airpor taxi is very expensive (b) Uber works fine, at this time uber from airport to hostel is $660 (not cheap, and airport taxi is at least twice that) (c) there are buses which I think should cost $60-$100, although no bus from the airport stops really close to the hostel Google gives some options but it misses what we think is the best option: Take the DM1 bus at the airport, ( DMI on wiki) Get off either:
  • Ellauri y 26 de marzo - walk northwest on Bulevar España until you reach San Salvador, then turn left until Paullier google map
or
  • Ellauri y 21 de setiembre - walk northwest on 21 de setiembre until you reach San Salvador, then turn left until Paullier google map

Either one is about 1.4km, alternatively take a taxi or uber which for the short distance shouldn't be too expensive (or take a bus going in the right direction on Bulevar España or 21 de setiembre, but I'm not sure it's worth it. To take the bus you need pesos uruguayos (preferably small bill $100 or $200, but $500 may be ok).

PLEASE BE AWARE: the exchange rate at the airport is LUDICROUS, if you need to change do as little as possible. A good option is to use ATM at the airport (outside security). Using ATM either at the airport or in the city should be safe (but I don't know if they will charge a fee for foreign atm cards).

Changing money in the city should be quite easy. Search for "cambio" in google maps, I find several nearby on 21 de setiembre. I assume they will be closed on sunday.

Also note: if you go to a restaurant and use either your foreigng credit or debit card, they will reimburse you the VAT, which is a 18% discount. This should also be safe.
